I'm not sure this is the correct forum for this, but I have a question/suggestion on custom attributes.  As I worked with this, it seems the attributes are associate with a type, i.e. file, hyperlink, zipfile, etc.   I tested by creating a custom attribute and had to associate with "File".

 Is it possible to have custom attributes associated with a particular file type such as MS Word, or even a custom file type?    As an example could we define a custom file type called "Contract" and say it would be a MS Word file type, and then in attributes define custom fields for a contract type document such as contract date, contracting party, expiration date, and what we are contracting for?

This is precisely the way to go. What you create is a custom type: Custom.File.Contract and you add a custom attribute which is applicable ony to this type. Then, when uploading a file, the dropdown becomes active and shows the custom type, allowing you to override the extension detection (which would classify it as a Word doc). You would also see the custom fields you requested.
