I have followed, checked and rechecked all settings according to your admin manual for the full text search. To use it I had to start the MS Indexing service. I created a separate catalog for the DMX and pointed to the directory where the documents reside. I downloaded the PDF ifilter for the indexing service....http://www.adobe.com/supp...etail.jsp?ftpID=2611

But the full text search still does not work. If I open one of the files and choose a word from it and then attempt to search for it using the Advanced seach in DMX it returns all documents.

We are using IIS 5.1 and Indexing Service 5.1.26, and the latest versions of DNN and DMX Pro

Do you have any ideas as to how I should troubleshoot this?

    Lets try to troubleshoot

    1. You gave the catalog a simple name like 'dnncat' or something and filled that in, in the box on the DMX options screen?

    2. You unchecked the 'rename extensions'?

    3. You verified the existence of non-extension-renamed material in the repository? I.e. documents that are NOT called something.resources.

    4. You've opened the computer management console, gone to the Indexing Service under services, and tried querying the catalog directly from there with positive results?

    5. Does narrowing the search down using the fields above the free text field work?

    6. Your version of DMX is 3.1.3 and DNN is 3.1.1?

If all answers are yes .. let me know and we'll brainstorm some more.

Ok, I see I'm not the only one. The same thing is happening to me. The query works fine when I do it directly from Index Server however quick search does not find anything unless it's in the title and advanced search always returns every single document. We purchased this component specifically for this feature and it's not working.

Forgot to mention, we are running DNN 4.02. It says it works with 4 but that's the only thing I can think of. I could try it on a 3.x instance on my local box but not sure if I have to activate it for localhost or not.

    Dan,
I asked Teresa about that issue above. Her reply:
"We simply reinstalled the module and it then worked." She also notes that they were on DNN 3.1.1 at that time.

Hmmm, I did add the new version of DMX yesterday which I would assume means a reinstall. Should I totally remove the module from DNN and re add? Will I have any activation issues if doing this?

    Dan,
You might, but just activate and if necessary contact me if something fails.

I am having the same problem as mentioned here -  I can query the MS Index catalog just fine on the server and attach to the catalog just fine (apparently) but nothing ever shows up in the full text content search

I tried reinstalling as was mentioned but that didnt do anything

    DMX Pro 3.4.5

    DNN 3.3.3

If there is a fix for this can you inform me ASAP please

    TIA

Okay I just discovered something - If I set the 'contents' box to 'doesn't contain' then I get some results - so it does appear to be using the catalog but just not doing the full text search quite right

I also get this error with a two word search

An error occurred in the following search:
    SELECT {objectQualifier}DMX_Entries.*, {objectQualifier}DMX_Extensions.Icon16, (SELECT Description FROM {objectQualifier}DMX_Entries AS p WHERE p.EntryId = {objectQualifier}DMX_Entries.CollectionId) AS CollectionName, Docs.Rank AS Rank FROM ({objectQualifier}DMX_Entries INNER JOIN {objectQualifier}DMX_Extensions ON {objectQualifier}DMX_Entries.EntryType = {objectQualifier}DMX_Extensions.ExtensionKey) LEFT JOIN OPENQUERY(DNNSearch, 'SELECT Path, Rank FROM SCOPE() WHERE FREETEXT(Contents, ''"teach"'') AND FREETEXT(Contents, ''"them"'')') AS Docs ON 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\NewKSDE2\Portals\0\DMX\' + {objectQualifier}DMX_Entries.Entry = Docs.Path WHERE (({objectQualifier}DMX_Entries.PortalId = 0) AND ({objectQualifier}DMX_Extensions.PortalId = 0) AND ({objectQualifier}DMX_Entries.EntryId = {objectQualifier}DMX_Entries.LastVersionId)) AND ((Docs.Rank > 0))
Error: Could not execute query against OLE DB provider 'MSIDXS'.

    Dylan,
If you go to the SQL server using your enterprise manager do you see the catalog under 'attached servers'?

Peter I got this to work after some strugling and messing around on the server - some of the documentation should be clarified on s few sections before this and I would have gotten it - i'll try to send you some notes on what I think should be added

However some tests on two word (or more) searches reveal some weird bug - some words seem to cause the error I mention above the - ones i seem to get problems with are 'me' and 'them' so something like 'teach me' causes the error seen

It appears Indexing Service has an 'intelligence' of its own which is hard to predict. I've heard this before that some words can give rise to errors, but a word list doesn't exist ofcourse (and is language dependent). One should realize that the full-text search is limited to what Indexing service can do/does. This is not always a blessing. But if you're willing to take those errors for granted, then you have a working full-text search solution in DNN ...

Where is the admin manual? Thanks in advance.
