Hi, Do I need to install the Adobe iFilter in order to do full text search on pdf's? I am able to do full text searches on Word docs but I can't seem to get any returns when searching for text in pdf's. I recently installed Adobe iFilter and followed their instructions, but I can't seem to get that to work, even through the Windows Indexing query form. Any suggestions?

Dave,
Yes, you need to install the pdf filter. Full text search works through Indexing Service and you need to install 'filters' for specific document types to show up. MS Office filters are included by default, but not the Adobe PDF filter. I'm not sure why you're not seeing something, but maybe it needs time to reindex first. I assume you have switched off 'extension renaming'. If the documents are still called something.resources, Indexing Service will not see them as pdfs.

Thanks Peter. Yes, I've turned off extension renaming and re-indexed my site, but no luck. I'm hosting at PowerDNN, so hopefully Tony can help me out with this one.

Dave, Send Tony my best and if need be, just let him get in touch with me. I hung out with him last week on a conference in Vegas ... Peter
