    Hello
I have strange issues on DotNetNuke 4.4.0 with files when downloading from DMX. I have/had error messages when opening pdf-files downloaded by DMX, but not always. There could be a coherence between new performance and compression settings in DNN 4.4.0. What are your experiences with DNN 4.4.0 and DMX?

    Kind regards
    Nicolo

I am having a similar issue where upon downloading a pdf & sometimes uploading, an error message details that the file is damaged and could not be repaired.  When downloading doc files the download process hangs and ultimately states the connection was reset.

Are any of you using http compression? I think it has been added to DNN 4.4. I'll need to check this out for myself.

I wasn't using HTTP Compression at the time I was experiencing the error.  I have turned it on since and have seen a performance gain across my site.

Since my last post, I have seen a very similar issue using Onyaktech's SigmaPro  Help Desk where my attachments seen to have their size altered on upload.  Files upload directly to the db with this module.  Then when downloading the file (pdf) opens but does not display correctly where only partial information is contained within.  Partial information meaning images are cut off and text is missing.

Anything else server side or DNN in general I can look at that may help with both modules?

I wanted to add some clarity to my last post.  gzip compression was turned on in DNN host settings as it installs with this option by default while IIS6 http compression was off.  I turned the DNN default compression off and retested the upload & download with no success.

I then turned back on the DNN gzip compression and also went through the steps to enable http compression within IIS6.  I retested the upload & download again with no success.

I'm not sure what the issue is. I know for sure that http compression hampers downloads (not uploads), so you need to exempt DesktopModules/Bring2mind/DMX/Download.aspx always from this. DNN 4.4 is going to be tested in the coming weeks and any issues particular to that will no doubt surface quickly.

I am completely stuck trying to make DMX work on a production machine running DNN 4.4.0. The issue is exactly the same as above. Uploads OK, downloads broken.
Please urgently advise and let me know if your testing gave any result. Downgrade to previous DNN releases is not a possible option, in our prduction enviroment.

If you sign in as host. Select Host Settings, expand Advance Settings, expand performance settings...you will find an option for Compression Setting. Set this option to No Compression rather than the default of Gzip Compression, click update and you will find all of the files that you've uploaded will now download successfully.

I'm not sure if you need to also select Restart Application and can't remember if I selected this or not. I'm also using DNN 4.4.1, the newly released update.

I'll write a news post about this, but DNN 4.4 has compression on by default. This wrecks downloads (all download modules will probably have this issue). So you can either:
    - switch off compression altogether, or
    - edit Compression.Config and add the following to the exception list:
    DesktopModules/Bring2mind/DMX/Download.aspx

This doesn't work form me. I disabled the host-wide compression and also added the indicated line in the compression.config file. Unfortunately, nothing changed.... Every download gets stuck a few kilobytes from the end, and as a result the file is corrupted. The uploaded file, on the server filesystem, is OK.

    Running DNN 4.4.0. & DMX 03.04.06

    Please help.

    Andrae

One last thing to try which solved the same file corruption issue but with a different module, is to comment out the compression line within the web.config file.
It's worth a shot, outside of this I'm out of ideas.

last time pasting in the following line.  maybe the comments were killing its appearance so I took off the comment tags.
    add name="Compression" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Compression.HttpModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Compression"

Andrea, please don't use 04.04.00. It has been replaced by 04.04.01 a couple of weeks ago.
