I was moving (cut/paste) some folders/documents to a different parent folder and noticed that all the documents moved. Perfect.  Upon returning to the original parent folder the original folder was still in place and one document remained in the folder. This document matched exactly to the moved document right down to the fact that I had moved in the history.

This leads me to ask is it possible to create a hyperlink to an existing document in DMX like we can we collections? Have I stumbled upon a way to connect 1 document to 2 different folders?

If so then this is exactly what I need, since this will allow us to have a single document referenced in multiple places.

P.S. Have you encountered this problem in moving documents?

Does this sound like the same issue?

    Sure does.

    Thanx

How about the option of being able to link one document to 2 or more folders?

Yes. You stumbled on a bug rather than a feature. The collection/file structure is by design uniform and does not allow 'shadow' copies. The categories system was meant to do that. The closest thing to what you want is to use the hyperlink to a document and use that somewhere else. Remember that you can add three primitive types: collection, file, and hyperlink. You could use the latter to add a link to a document.

    DMX 3.4.11, DNN 4.5.5

We're using hyperlinks to access documents in other collections of the same portal. The problem is that the hyperlink opens in a new window, which is necessary for hyperlinks to external sites. Unfortunately, the documents are only available to logged in users and that login status is lost when the new window opens (not using Remember Login functionality). We'd prefer not to copy the document to the second collection to avoid maintaining two instances of the doc.

Is there a version of DMX 3 that allows for 'shadow' copies? Any other workarounds?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Tom,

If using a URL to DNN/DMX it should still use the existing session. If I right click here on a link (like on one of the breadcrumbs toward the top of the page) and open in a new 'tab' or 'window' it still keeps my login. Can you confirm this? If you're being logged out by every new window sparking then something must be tuned differently on the browser end. Now if you keep your login, then a link to DMX like:
    http://myserver/DMXPage/t...ommand=Core_Download
Should be fine in a second window.

    Hey Peter,

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, you're right. It was an issue with our IIS setup. The site was setup in IIS as a website and also as a virtual directory underneath that website (for reasons I won't go into). Upon entering, all traffic is directed to the virtual, but a few hyperlinks were pointing to the website. That's when the session was lost.

    Thanks again,
    Tom
