Peter, congrats on the release of DMX4! I inadvertently saw it on Snowcovered yesterday and see that it was release only yesterday -- so other than beta testers I might be one of the first to purchse it.

I'm currently running DMX3. I'm getting ready to install DMX4.

In DMX3, search utilizes the Indexing Service in Windows 2003. The documentation sent with DMX4 doesn't discuss the search function, other than to indicate that there is a new search provider, Lucene. I'm unfamiliar with Lucene, as of this writing.

Questions:

1. Does DMX4 search work out of the box then, without using Indexing Service?

2. How, if at all, does the new search integrate with DNN search? (In DMX3, it didn't, but the work-around of having a second module on the search results page was actually fine.)

3. Any other advice re implementing search on DMX4 will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Steve

Not (yet) hearing back, I've installed DMX4 over my prior install of DMX3.

I have a bug to report:

I have installed an instance of DMX3 on the DNN Search Results page. On upgrading to DMX4, that module is showing an error message. I guess I'm supposed to remove it now, but the problem is that the module's menu is no longer available -- there's no way to delete it. I imagine I should create a new search page, and just delete this page. Correct?

I have a question on the licensing:

I've activated the product, or at least I think I have. But I am baffled by the message, which is:

Expires: Monday, January 01, 0001
Service Until: Saturday, September 13, 2008
Max Portals: 25
Activation Key: [omitted in this post]
Activation key fails to checks out

What does "Activation key fails to checks out" mean? It seems to me that it's telling me that the product is not activated.

Hi Steve,

Reacting to your first post:
1. Yes. You'll need to run the 'reindex' script if you're upgrading from DMX 3.
2. DNN search has not changed unfortunately so it cannot be used. I have not yet made a module for the search page.
3. None for now.

Sorry for the delay but it's hectic in the days following a release.

Regarding the second post:

You should do a backup first so you can roll back. This goes for any module upgrade. If something breaks you can note it, roll-back and delete malfunctioning modules.

Search results page: You could alternatively delete it by hand if you know the module's ID. It is linked to the tab ID in TabModules table. Then you could delete it from Modules and it should disappear as well.

About activation: Contact me by email and I'll work it out. I've put a lot of effort into this to make it robust as rock, but it appears impossible to predict all situations.

Thanks for the tip on manual deletion. I went that route rather than a roll-back.
