Hi Peter,

The more I experiment with the new module, the more I can't wait to make this available to my users!  I believe that they will really appreciate the new interface and the ability to directly edit a document without having to save it to their local machine.  While working through another problem(WebDAV forum) I discovered a few UI issues for your consideration.

A critical error has occurred
Per your instructions to validate that the DMX module is activated, I added a new file to an existing folder.  After selecting a Word document, I provided a description, keywords, and remarks.  After selecting "Next", I allowed all users to view, edit and approve the document.  Then, I selected a category.  When selecting "Finish" I received the following message:
A critical error has occured.  Value cannot be null: Parameter name: name
However, after getting this error, I discovered that the file does exist on the site.  To ensure that I didn't miss something, I added another file and validated that every field had an appropriate value.

The data could not be loaded
Upon getting the preceeding message. I tested the file to ensure that I could download it.  I was provided an option to open or save the file.  When I opened it, everything appeared to be correct.  Note that I did not attempt to "Open in Word" since I'm currently experiencing a WebDAV problem (see WebDAV forum).  Since this was simply a test file, I decided to hard delete it.  When doing so, I received a popup error indicating the The data could not be loaded.  I was unable to delete the file.  Again, assuming pilot error, I attempted to load a file and delete after ensuring all fields were entered correctly.  Unfortunately, I received the same set of errors.

Admin Layout
Given the number of employees in our organization, and since we cannot afford to purchase wide screen monitors for everyone, our site utilizes a fixed width (800X600) skin.  Although the primary user interface works just fine, attempting to perform admin/file/folder functions is impossible.  The wizard buttons (Previous, Next, Cancel) are located to the far right of the page.  As such, we cannot see them.  If the blue element was narrower and the page elements were arranged vertically, then all users could adquately use the module.  Is it possible for you to easily rearrange the layout to accommodate all potential users?

Thanks.
Scott

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the feedback. Can you let me see your installation? I'm curious about the errors.

About the layout: I hesitated but went for a design utilizing 1024 width, SQL 2005, .NET 2, etc. This is because I feel I cannot let the 'front-runners' be too let down by the 'laggers'. Having said that: I do try to see how I can provide some flexibility. In your case we'd need to have a close look at how we can rearrange stuff inside the ascx's to fit your needs. You'll need to backup these changes. The advantage of changing only the ascxs is that you don't need to fork the module for your own sake.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter,

I wish I could provide you with acces since it would certainly be easier to resolve the problem.  Unfortunately, this is an internal corporate intranet that is tucked behind a variety of firewalls.  Exposing the site externally would require hard-to-obtain approvals and a lot of cooperation among several groups on opposite coasts.  I'll try again, and see if I get an event that I can pass along to you.

As for the layout, you're right; I'll look at changing the ascx files.

Thank you.
Scott
