Hi i'm a little new to all of this but I am having trouble opening word 2007 documents (docx), they seem to be treated as a zip file, this i'm guessing may be down to the wrong mime type being used.

If i save the document in compatability mode (word 2003) it all works fine.

Could someone advise me if there is a configuration setting that needs to be altered to get this working, also easy to follow step by step instructions would be helpful.

Thank you for you help with this.

Hi Neale,

How are you trying to open this file? Download through web interface and then 'Open'? Or WebDAV? In any case, you'll need to make provisions for docx as an extension to recognize. The default mime-type is just a bitstream, so when a file is not recognized it is returned as 'application/octet-stream'. If you want to have it sent as Word file, you could try adding it to the file-types and specify 'application/msword' for the mime-type. Check out the DMX_Extensions table to get an idea of what is happening. Note that any changes only affect newly uploaded documents as file types are parsed upon upload.

Neale/Peter:

We have tried to recognize this file type and it shows up properly in the list but it still tries to download as zip. If you try to open a Office 2007 file in I.E. exact same problem, binary. Still trying to find a solution.

This problem is from Open and WebDAV at our location.

but docx shows up as an unknown filetype right? Then it should not appear with 'Open in Word'. I'm still not sure how you're doing this. Open as in 'save or open this file' after you're attempting a download? How can you access a docx through webdav?

Peter:

Yes, the filetype is unknown. But the problem is two fold.

Users prefer speed. Many very quickly learn that download then open, not save, gets you a file much faster then Open in..., so even if you download then open, Explorer opens the file as a zip not Word 2007. regardless of the file type the header part of the file appears as a compressed file and you get binary.

Not sure about WebDAV because of the its unpredicability.

Hi Laverne,

Unless it's added to the system, docx won't be accessible for direct editing through webdav. Only for copying, etc. About the regular download/open action: it seems the problem lies at the client side. All DMX can do is add a mime-type in the header and this is configurable in the module's file type list. It's up to the client to wire this to Word 2007 in this case. Do you have any idea what the correct mime-type is for docx?
