hi - considering dmx4 for a client.  it seems like a great match so far, but i have a few questions:

  • is the product compatible with SQL Server EXPRESS 2005?
  • can a user be configured to receive an email update for every new/updated document within a specific folder, or is it document-specific?
  • i have successfully (no errors reported) installed the trial version, but when attempting to upload a document to test things, I get the following message: "The module has not been activated or there is an issue with the license. Please click here to continue."  is this something I can't do with the trial version?
  • if/when I'm ready to activate the trial, how do I do that?

thanks!

Hi Jason,

1. Yes. I run it on SQL EXPRESS myself.
2. Yes. The user must subscribe to the folder.
3. Activate the module in TRIAL mode first. Then it will allow upload/edits for a full month.
4. Follow indications in installation manual (download where you got the module from). Remember to log in as host.

thanks, peter!

a couple other questions regarding the subscribing feature:

  • can an administrator subscribe users to specific documents/folders, or does each user have to do this individually?
  • can users be auto-subscribed to a specific folder based on their security role?  for example, let's say i add a DNN user to security role = "projectx".  could that user automatically gain access to the "projectx" folder in dmx4?

thanks for your help!

jason

Hi Jason,

1. Users have to subscribe themselves.
2. No. All subscriptions are currently designed to be user initiated to avoid any possiblity of abuse.

Hi Peter,

are your answers as per 10/16/2007 concerning subscription still valid? Is it realy impossible for an admin to subscribe users to a document or folder?? I am puzzled because In DMX I found the notification template

EMAIL_NOTIFICATION_SUBSCRIBE_X

which informs a user that he had been subscribed to a document by another user:

Dear {{valueof(notification/addressee/displayname)}},

'{{valueof(notification/user/displayname)}}' has subscribed you to a document entitled '{{valueof(notification/entry/title)}}'. You will receive an email when changes are made to this document. To see the document please navigate to...

Regards, Mathias

Mathias,

I believe this was part of an addon project that found it's way into the core. The addon was for DMX 3. Neither the DMX 3 nor 4 core support subscribing someone else. As mentioned it was something that was done once as an addon project in DMX 3. This addon would need to be revised to get it to work on DMX 4. Currently the focus is on the core and a number of other custom projects.
