Upgraded to 4.01 this weekend.
Customers are reporting non-admins are no longer able to rename folders in the system. Admins can, but non-admins cannot. I checked to ensure approvals are turned off. Regular users can add folders, delete folders & upload files.
Any thoughts ? |

Hi Joe, You mean they don't see 'edit metadata' in the item menu? Or are you talking about the webDav side? Peter |

Sorry, should have been more specific. The web site. They actually see the edit metdata, but when they change the name of the folder and hit finish, the name change is not saved anywhere.
I've not done any tracing to the SQL Server, so I can't tell you if the commands are being relayed to the back end. |

Hi Joe, It didn't reproduce here. Can you check maybe with SQL Profiler what's happening on your installation? Peter

Peter,
OK - I figured it out. If we have "Permissions only by Admin" turned on, non-admin users cannot rename folders. When I turned this off, renames are working and they can set permissions.
I would classify this a bug - shouldn't those 2 functions be seperate ? I would want them to be able to change folder names, but not change permissions.
Can you clarify/assist ? |

Hi Joe, Yep, that would classifiy as a bug. I'll make a note of it. Users with edit rigths should be able to change the title. The 'permissions only by admin' is indeed logically seperate from this. Peter |

thanks peter. For now, I've turned off the option and warned users about being very careful. |

Hi Peter,
I've been working with DMX 4.01.01 Beta 2.3, as well as the released version 4.01.00 and wanted to follow up on this post.
I have found with 4.01.01 Beta, if "Permissions only by Admin" is set True, as reported, non admins cannot edit Folder names from within DMX module. In addition, if a non admin attempts to create a folder, it is created, but with the name "No Title", which can then only be edited by an Admin.
However, with the above setting, a non admin has no problem creating and editing names via WebDAV in Windows Explorer, so the code is definitely handling the two mechanisms differently.
From what I have tested, DMX v 4.01.00 (current release) behaves the same way with WebDAV.
For reference, both sites are running DNN v 04.08.00. Just thought you would want to know the Beta is still experiencing this problem.

Hi Peter,
I was not sure if you thought you had fixed the folder rename problem in v4.02.00 released today. I have found that folders still cannot be renamed by non-admins unless the "Pernissions only by Admins" is disabled.

Hi Rob,
I still cannot replictae this on the installations I have here. There must be something else interfering.

Hi Peter,
I've noticed when the rename fails, the details section still shows a modifed date. I'll do some more testing and capture information with SQL Profiler to see if that helps identify the issue.

Hello,
I purchased this module today and have run into this ame bug. Any update on a fix? This will cause some headaches for us. Very easy for someone to jack up permissions.
Thanks! |

Hi Ed and others, It has been fixed and this fix will be included in the upcoming release. The next scheduled release (04.02.01) is next week (i.e. before Easter). Peter |
