PDFs do not open

When I create a network place I can get to the webdav just fine and double click word documents and they open up. But pdfs get an error "There was an error opening this document. The filename, directory name, or voulme label syntax is incorrect." I can copy the file to my local machine and it opens correctly.

Hi Jonathan, That can only be due to the Acrobat client, as far as I can see. When you right click on the pdf, does it say: 'Open' or 'Edit' on the context menu? Peter

I've seen the behaviour with the Acrobat 8.12 Reader / Client on Windows. Right-clicking "Open" on a file in a WebDAV window will create the error while choosing "Open" from within the Reader application and pointing to the exact same file will work fine...

Looks like an Acrobat issue. Note that all software that uses webdav to open a document must itself implement webdav. So whereas some software works (like Office) other may not. It is trial and error with Webdav in this respect. Having said that we expect a new webdav implementation in DMX 4.4 which is slated for the fall. It will support more protocol enhancements and who knows will solve more issues. Peter

I may be late to the party on this one, but I've just had a client report some news that validates the implementation (webDAV) mismatch theory between MS and Adobe. The client switched to Foxit's pdf reader (http://bit.ly/x8FCn) and all pdf opening errors (using webDAV) suddenly disappeared...

Thanks for the heads up on that. Seems like Adobe is at odds with all big IT players right now ...
