It is hard to debug at a distance. But we can try the following way:

1. Make sure you have a document that is of undisputed (i.e. that does not need a fancy iFilter to decode) type (like a text document) . In the contents use a specific term (foobar1). In the title use one as well (foobar2)
2. Set the custom attribute (att1) value on it (foobar3)
3. Give it permission for All Users to see.
4. Download 'Luke' as described in the search manual and open Portals/0/DMX/Lucene/index
5. Browse to the document (second tab) and check the various fields as they have been stored. Check the existence of foobar1, 2 and 3.
6. In the search tab of Luke write 'title:foobar2'. It should return the document. Try also 'contents:foobar1' and 'att1:foobar3'
7. In DMX call up search. Go to the advanced search option and type the same queries as above. They should also return the document as in Luke.
8. Now use the regular search interface to find the foobar1, 2 and 3.

Let me know at which point it fails.

Peter, are you saying that for indexing to work here that All Users must have view permissions?

Hi Paul,
No, not at all. It was a way of narrowing down in debugging. You first start with something that has to show up no matter what to rule out any other issues. Then you gradually build up your complexity and see where it fails.

I am having the same problem.
I use index server, created a catalogue and added it via the dmx software and rebuild. I followed all the instructions provided, but nothing works.
Sometimes i get a search result, but most of the time not.  I created an attribute and it is impossible to do a search on this attribute.
I also tried wildcards but with no result.
Problem is that we tried to get it work for almost a year now and hoped that it would be resolved with the new releases.

Maybe you guys used a name for a custom attribute that is used in the main table (check out DMX_Entries and DMX_Extensions for some of the names that come out. Others include 'title' and 'remarks'). I just discovered this one and was able to reproduce it. I have attached a bug tracking item to this post.

hi guys, year is 2012, i've installed DNN 6.1.4 and DMX 6.00.02 trial on server 2008 R2. Search in "custom attributes" is not working properly. For some attributes search can find, for some can't find. Our company needs a document management and i know DNN for 5 years that's why i selected this product. How can i get help? Website contact emails are not responding.

Your email must have gotten stuck in our spam filter. Sorry. Do you have more information about how the search doesn’t work? Are there any more specifics you can think of? Like “only the beginning of strings” or “only the middle” or “only whole words”? Or Only string types and not numbers?
