Peter,

I have a situation where I have 2 folders in DMX where they need to contain dpulicate inforamtion.  So for example Folder 1 and Folder 2 will need to have the same files and folders in each one.  I know I can just copy files across or put a link in one that links back to the other but I would prefer to have the same structure in both folders with the most up to date inforamtion regardless of which folder is edited.  Is this possible and if so how?

Thanks,

Arick

Hi Arick,
Shadows are not implemented in DMX. I think I see what you mean but it is not in DMX. Let me ask a few questions to explore if it is actually possible:
1. Are permissions identical on the 2 copies?
2. If someone edits one, then the other is also changed, right?
3. If 1&2 both yes: what is the use case? Why can't it be the same folder shown on both sides?

Peter,

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. I would prefer to have it be the same folder shown on both sides.

A use case as to why I am exploring this option. We have a Service area where documents are stored. In this service area we have 2 categories that for organization structure need to be displayed separate and these 2 categories contain the exact same set of documents. Since the folders will be added to and some of the files will be changed over time it would be great not to have to update 2 locations but instead only have a need to update 1 and have the other location updated automatically.

Can you explain to me what exactly is separate from the 2?

Note that with DMX you can set it up to point to a particular folder as a 'virtual root' under module settings. You could have 2 pages displaying exactly the same folder and they would remain perfectly in sync. I believe DMX was designed to do what you want, but maybe I didn't fully understand.

Peter,

The main difference between the 2 is the folder structure. Here is what I'm after

Root 1
- Folder 1
- Folder 2
- Folder 3

Root 2
- Folder 1 (From Root 1)
- Folder 4
- Folder 5

The 'virtual root' would work if I the same folder structure but unfortunately it is only 1 folder that would be the same across to root folders. Make sense?

Yes, now I see your point. I'll make a note of the use case. Currently this is not implemented.
