Hi,
I am trying to get the RSS feed on the new DMX version to work but am having a bit of trouble. I've looked at the documentation and have enabled the RSS as directed, it then says that you need to "Use the link under the RSS buttons" to retrieve the feed url. I cannot seem to find this, where exactly are the RSS buttons? I want to use this RSS feed in the DNN core news feed module, I take it that this is possible?
Thanks. |

Hi Lee,
The link should appear on the module menu when you enable as described in the documentation. Using the default blue skin it also shows up as an action button underneath the module. But as said this depends on the skin. The module menu should always show the enabled features like 'print', 'export/import', 'rss' etc.
It should not be a problem to have this rendered with the core News module. Let me know if this gives any issues.

Correction: the one on the module menu comes from DMX and it's called 'Rss Feed'. The one just below the module is generated when you have a skin that implements the action buttons and the button is enabled in the module settings.

Hi Peter,
Got the feed working but I can't seem to use it with the News Feed module. The feed address I get from your module is:
http://serverID/DevNet/De...53&ModuleId=1068
and when I paste it into the News Feed I get the error message:
Could Not Connect To http://serverID/DevNet/DesktopModules/Bring2mind/DMX/DmxRss.aspx?PortalId=0&TabId=353&ModuleId=1068. You Should Verify The Source Address Is Valid And That Your Hosting Provider Has Configured Their Proxy Server Settings Correctly
If I paste the feed into IE's address bar then the rss is displayed as it should so it's not your feed that is wrong. I tried adding a username and password in the News Feed module in case it was permissions but that didn't do anything.
Have you any idea why the News Feed doesn't work with this?
Cheers. |

Hi Lee,
Well, how lucky I'm also responsible for the Nesfeeds module in DNN now ;-) You are, however, working on the 'old' Newsfeeds module, so this is not my code. There is no reason it should refuse operation IMO other than that it might not be able to get through to that resource due to authentication or due to misspelling of the url. Can you verify the following: 1. The DMX module of the feed is viewable by 'All Users', and 2. The url is indeed correct (I saw you pasted some spaces in your post above, so just checking if this is a typo or not) Peter |

Hi Peter,
Thanks for your reply.
Yep the DMX module is viewable by 'All Users' and the URL is correct, the spaces were a typo :-)
What do you mean by the 'old' Newsfeed module? Is there a new one out?
Anyway, I have now created my own module to display the most recently updated documents from your module. Thanks for your time anyway.
Lee. |

Hi Lee, A new Newsfeeds module is in the 'project release tracker' of DNN. This means it is being tested for release. Peter |

Hi Peter,
Where is the RSS help documentation? Actually, where is all of the latest DMX 4 documentation available? I cannot find it on your site.

Hi Rob,
It's integrated in the module under the help menu.

Hi Peter,
I'm using the new DMX and the new Newsfeed module but when I try to get the DMX rss feed working in the newsfeed module I get the following error with the newsfeed:-
Feed 'http://server/DesktopModu...6&ModuleId=1117' could not be loaded. Error: The element 'channel' has incomplete content. List of possible elements expected: 'title, link, description, language, copyright, managingEditor, webMaster, pubDate, lastBuildDate, category, generator, docs, cloud, ttl, image, textInput, skipHours, skipDays, rating, item' as well as any element in namespace '##other'.
Is this a problem with the DMX module or the Newsfeed module?
Regards,
Lee. |

Hi Lee, It's the newsfeed module that is being too strict. Which version of DMX did you try? Peter |
