Hello Peter,

Below is a conversation I just had with WSS.  Can you offer me any suggestions on ways to resolve this?  I am open to pretty much anything at this point.

Thanks,
Bill Mason

Hello,
Sorry we cannot adjust the upload speed for HTTP.
It is best to use FTP for uploading large files.
Thank You,
Tim

Recently we added the DNN addon "Document Exchange" module so that they could exchange drawings and other documents with their clients. I have been testing the module over the last few days and the performance is extrememly disappointing. A simple 1.5 MB file took over an hour to upload. The upload speed seems to average in the 46 kbs range.

Hi Bill,

Looks like you're going to have to look for another hosting provider. 1.5 Mb over an hour is plain ridiculous. DMX even goes out of its way to make the upload process as smooth and clear as possible (with progress bar). There is absolutely nothing that in some way piggybacks on the inbound traffic (i.e. there is nothing squatting your bandwidth) from the module's side. Either your up speed is too slow (I test this with http://www.speedtest.net) or the hosting providers inbound speed is below par.

Their statement to 'use FTP' instead is somewhat puzzling. The bytestream may be marginally better, but not noticeable to you. FTP is by nature not a very secure protocol, so admin's usually advise to stay away from it.

Final note: you can of course upload using FTP and then import in DMX using the server path you uploaded to, but it is a cumbersome process. And for 1.5 Mb it's absurd. Have you tried the WebDAV connection?

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the reply. I uploaded that same exact file to the site in about 18 seconds via ftp.   489kbs.

I was real excited about the Webdav when I first read about it during the install but alas, when I asked them about the updates that were needed to make it work I was informed that they do not make IIS changes for anyone.

It is unfortunate because I have about 7 other clients plus my business and personal sites with them. Until now I was mostly happy with them and their service. Can you make any recommendations for hosting sites that work well with your software, especially the Wedav feature? I also really need SQL support through SQL Server Manager because that also opens up access for making SQL updates via local programs which I have done for a number of my clients.

Thanks,
Bill
