I have problem when trying to upload a CHM file into my DMX module. After I upload the file successfully into the module, I get an error message when trying to open the file directly from the module: “The address is not valid”. It seems that for some reasons, the CHM file cannot update the URL once it is uploaded into the module (it still uses my local machine address in order to find the HTML file instead of the one that is in the server). And, it works fine if I download the file from the module and open it in my local machine. Would you please let me know how to troubleshoot this issue? Does it mean that I need to upload this CHM file from my server instead of from my local machine to make it work?

Thanks in advance for your helps.

Hi Yonatan,

I presume it is not recognized internally by DMX. You did not add a file type for it did you? If you didn't then there is no file type defined for .chm. So it will be sent to the browser as an 'application/octet-stream' mime type. It could be there that the fault occurs. You can try to look up on internet what the correct mime-type for this file is and add it to the file types.

If this doesn't help, can you specify how you tried to 'open directly'? When you click on something and Windows asks 'Open' or 'Save' all it does is to chose between downloading to a place you specify ('Save') or the temporary internet files folder ('Open') and then open it. I have heard of client PCs failing to open documents from the Temp IE files folder.

Hi Peter,

Actually I have added the CHM file type into the module. I am going to send you the screenshot so you can review the configuration.

Yes, I try to open it by clicking on “Open” button on the Windows pop-up box. So, you said that: it keeps failing because it tries to open the CHM file that is stored on the temporary internet files folder? Is there any solutions to prevent the users to open it directly from the module (or force them to download it instead)? I have set the default control to be “download” but it seems that they can still open it by clicking “Open” button.

Thanks,
Yonatan

I think I forgot to mention this: FYI, it does open the file with the correct application (Easy CHM) when I try to open it directly from the server. But, it displays the error message: “The address is not valid” inside the application.

Hi Yonatan,
I don't think it's something I can solve. The error happens on the client side. I'll try and replicate this somewhere when I have a moment.
