When we try to open a file in Word or Excel, WebDAV is trying to open the file based on the name (formerly description?) of the document and not the file name. However, when we download a file it works perfectly and reads  the file name. Why is it reading the name on open and not the file name?

Hi Mark,

Original filenames do not have to be unique across a single folder. One would not notice this in the UI. So opening a document could make you open something else instead. It was thought better to follow what was displayed (and append with the correct extension). We had to make a couple of choices for webDAV paths are there were a couple of incompatibilities with our original data model. Another example is the multilingual aspect. Folders and files can have different names. So for webdav the default culture is always used.

So, how do we get the file to open in Word or Excel so that it takes advantage of WebDAV. This is an upgraded system so the filename and name (description) are not the same. As it stands, we cannot edit documents live because it's trying to open and append an extension to the name (description). Thus it errors out.  Thanks ahead of time...

Hi Mark,

It should open them correctly. Can you give me an example?

To elaborate on my post above: if you have a document originally called myfile.doc and save it as 'My New Word Doc', then the interface should try to open 'My New Word Doc.doc'. This is still a valid name. What are you seeing?
