Hi,

we are runing a Portal with thousands of users and file with an "older" DNN Version (3.x) now we are planning to Update to the actula DNN Verison. In the portal we are using you DMX Module Version 3 (.Net 1.1). With the update we would also like to use the new Version 5 of DMX can this be Updated directly or do we have to make seveal stepps over the DMX? Thank you for your help.

Hi Stephan,

You have a bit of work to do. There will be several stages of upgrading. I suggest you try this in a test environment first and thoroughly test all the modules you have in your installation. Then, once you're satisfied you can get to the end, do it on the live server and make backups after every successful stage.

First you'll need to update your DNN. DMX 5 will not work below DNN 04.06.02. Also make sure you are on SQL 2005 or EXPRESS.

Once the base system has been updated you're ready for DMX 5. The upgrade is more or less automatic. Note there is an installation manual and it has a chapter on upgrading from DMX 3. One note though: please verify that the ModuleName in DesktopModules in your SQL database is 'Bring2mind\DMX'. If not, then you need an intermediary step. Let me know if this is the case (it means you're on a DMX 3.0 I think).

Thank you for the fast and very usefull response! We are running DMX Verison 03.05.02 at the moment on a DNN 03.03.07. I planed several Tests for this. At first localy and the on a stage copy on then live server, if i passed this sucessfully we go on.

The SQL Server is no Problem, it is 2005 (Experess) and I would never make an Update with a backup of the system ;-)

Thank your for the moment, I will test it out and contact you if i have problems with the Module Update.

Greetings, Stephan
