Helo Peter,

Where can I find in DMX5 the above feature?

Best regards,
Kenneth

Hi Kenneth,

When uploading a zip file you get a checkbox offering you the option to unzip. Equally, if you edit the attributes of a zip file in DMX you can unzip.

NB. You see this after the upload just above the 'title' of the new item.

Hi Peter,

When uploading a zip in DMX 5 there are now two check boxes:

The first I know is to tell DMX to Unzip the contents, the second "Use name as Folder" is a bit confusing.

And the help text, which is very confusing says:

"If checked the files in this zip file will be extracted. If you do not choose to unzip here, the title will be used as a new folder to unzip into."

Just clarify please. Thanks.

Yes, I've been struggling with this part. How do I offer the option to 'unzip here' or 'unzip to xyz' to a user without consuming acres of screen real estate? The text under the question mark should be adjusted.

So, if I understand correctly, if I only check 'Unzip', it will unzip everything into the current folder.

If I also check 'Use Name as Folder' it will create a new folder under the current folder, using the zip file name, then unzip everything into this new folder (including the creation of any subfolders contained in the zip file).

Is this correct, oh DMX master?

Also, is checking only the 'Use Name as Folder' a legal option? What would it do?

Hi Rob,

Yes, you got it! Only checking the 'Use Name as Folder' is illegal and will be ignored. In the future I might put a popup saying "why would you wanna do that?" ;-)

The DMX master

PS If you have an idea to make this clearer in the UI, shoot ...

Hi Peter,

Possible clarification ideas:

1) Do not show the second checkbox (Use Name as Folder) unless the Unzip folder is checked.

2) Assuming you do 1, above, Instead of a checkbox for "Use Name as folder" have two radio buttons:

  • Button 1 (default) "Unzip to current folder"
  • Button 2: Create new target folder, using Description field as name

If the buttons are stacked, should fit OK. Hopefully that would be clearer.
