I'm looking for documentation that explains how the following functionality works from an end-user perspective.  I'm not sure if these are working properly or not. 

Specifically, I'm interested in Mail Me, Subscribe, Show Direct Link and Navigate.

Good point.

Mail Me:
Click and the document(s) will be sent to the user as attachments to an email. The email address is used that is associated with the user's DNN account.

Subscribe:
Subscriptions mean you receive emailed notifications of changes to content. Subscribe to a folder and you get notified of changes within that folder. To tune the operations you get notified on there is a 'notifications' page under the admin menu.

Show Direct Link:
Click to bring up a window showing a link that you can embed somewhere else that will directly retrieve the document. This link will still respect security.

Navigate:
Reload the current page but with the selected item in focus. One possible use is to use the link in the browser's address bar to send to someone else. When they click the link they end up at exactly the same place.
Technical note to this: DMX 3 was completely querystring driven so it always worked through a url. DMX 4/5 have an Ajax UI where this is no longer the case. The 'navigate' function was introduced to get back some of the DMX 3 functionality here.
