I am experincing multiple email notifications for a single event. This is happening to multiple users and seems to be a random occurence.

I have been getting many complaints from users saying that they are receiving multiple copies of the same email when a new file(s) are uploaded to a site. Someties they receive 2, 3, and even 5 copies of the same email.

The notification is scheduled for a 5 minute interval with a 2 minute retry upon failure. All test were performed on on the subsequent interval.

I am thinking that something is going wrong with the Scheduling, any help is greately appreciated.

I recently tested with the following senario:

Subscribed to folder & uploaded a test file.

     Received 3 identical notifications

I definitely forgot that detail!

This has been happening since we upgraded:
DNN to 4.9.02 from 4.6. at the same time we upgraded DMX from 4.3.02 to 5.0.02

Currently we are running DMX 5.00.04

What is puzzling is the repetitive

Found 0 new events for portal 'Barnard Construction Company, Inc.'
Sent 1 emails in portal 0.

Meaning it detected no activity in DMX but did discover an unsent notification. I'm not sure why and it is hard to tell from here. Can you see anything unusual in DMX_Notifications in SQL? The unsent notifications have a 'Sent' value of NULL.

Nothing that seems strange in SQL. I created a folder "File Dump", subscribed to it and added (2) two files. I received (5) five identical emails:

Then I deleted the two files and got 3 identical emails. Then added 2 more files and......this is where it gets good.......

......got 2 emails that were identical about the first file, then 2 more emails (identical) about the 2nd file with no mention of the first one.

I'm wondering if you ever found a resolution to this problem.  I'm having a very similar problem, where users consistently receive multiple duplicate e-mail notifications when a file is edited.

WE are still having the same issue but it seems like Peter is working on the issue. Here is the last email I got from him on June 5th, 2009.

Hi Mike,

The email account you originally sent this to has been out for a Month. I just discovered this. A quick note regarding scheduled tasks: it needs some revision as I discover on other scheduled tasks similar issues. It seems DNN is not able to correctly time tasks.

I'm on that same version. I found something interesting, though. In the Host>Schedule menu of DNN, for some reason there were TWO instances of both the DMX Maintenance and Scheduled Task schedulers. I disabled both of the duplicates, CLEARED the "Retry Frequency" setting, and thus far, have not experiened duplicate e-mails. Mike, do you have the duplicate entries as well?

I do not have duplicate items. On the same note I did disable then re-enable the Maintenance and ScheduledTask items and still have the same issue. I hope that does solve your problem for good - that would be a nice easy fix!

Yes, it would be a nice, easy fix... if it was actually a "fix".  ;-)  I spoke too soon.  It was only the first upload that was "fixed", but subsequent changes are once again creating random duplicate e-mails.  I'll keep waiting for a bug fix.

Gentlemen,

I've added a tracked item to this thread (top right of screen) so you can see progress on the issue. It is not a trivial issue (it looks liek it's tied to a DNN issue) and I hope to get to the bottom of this. Note that before the end of July there will most likely not be an update to DMX due to the holiday season (it's bad Karma to release just before one goes on vacation).
