Hi Peter, hope you are well.

For some reason when I download a Visio drawing from DMX it does not open. It appears that when the filename is being created, when viewing or downloading, the %20 is stopping the file from being opened? Remove the %20 (no spaces in the filename) the document opens without any problems?

Have you any idea's what maybe causing this?

We are using DMX 05.00.04 on DNN 04.09.00.

Thank you,

Regards,

Gary.

Hi Gary,

It depends on the browser. Have you tried switching between IE and FF? Does the error also persist in other office formats or is it specific to Visio? Finally: we are talking regular opening through a web download, right? Not WebDAV?

Hi Peter, I have tried FF3, IE7 and IE8 - it was effecting all our company PC's but now some are working and some are not? I have had a bit more success when changing the Visio MIME type in DMX to application/vnd.ms-visio.viewer   it does not work at all when using others e.g. application/visio , application/ms-visio etc.

Just an observation as well the Specific Type is set to Microsoft.Visio in DMX , after digging around I have found that the Visio viewer specific type is VisioViewer.Viewer   however, if I enter this in DMX I am then unable to see any Visio drawings listed? If I change it back to Microsoft.Visio I can see them again? Is it easy to add VisioViewer.Viewer as a supported type in DMX ?

It is only Visio we are having this problem? We are using the Visio 2003 vewer.

The download is a regular download not WebDAV.

Hi Gary,

The 'EntryType' (Specific Type) is DMX internal and should not have any bearing on what happens outside. The File types (in the DMX_Extensions table) use the 'ExtensionKey' to identify what type of content it is. There is a custom field to tell it how to parse this from a file extension. If you want to change any of this ask yourself if this is another extension or not. If not, then it should remain the type it is (i.e. Microsoft.Visio). Only the mime-type is seen externally when DMX sends content to the browser.

And commenting on the situation in general: it looks like it's a mime-type issue in conjunction with the specifics of how the various clients are set up. DMX sends a bunch of bytes upon download and qualifies it with a mime-type. That's all it can do. It is then the client browser that decides what program to start etc. You're going to have to figure out what is best in your situation. If clients behave differently then it means the mime-type does not have the same effect on different PCs and they are therefore differently configured. You'll want to make that more uniform if you want to solve this.
