We want to use DMX to host 2000 small projects, can it be done?

DMX it is a document management solution. I'm not sure what you mean by 'hosting projects'. If projects equate to documents then I can't see why not. I've seen installations with over 50.000 documents.

We are going to project manage 2000 houses being built, each one of these house is a seperate project, with its own document. How do i set it up in DMX? Do I create for each of these a folder and its own subfolders? I read in one of the forums that you can create multiple instances of dmx, and each one points to a part of the main folder structure, and that is also how you handle the authorities.

Hi Armand,

Not quite. Each item (folder/file) has its own permissions. The folder structure is for the permissions just like you would on a hard disk. The fact that you can use multiple instances of DMX is so you can organize stuff around your site while sharding content. You can read more about this in the getting started manual (follow download link on home page).

You should be able to set up the 2000 folders without a problem. But a lot is unknown. So projects equate to documents. 1 project = 1 document. The next question is: what makes those documents different apart from their contents? I'm specifically interested in permissions. You can create a folder with the correct permissions per project and any document inside will inherit those permissions. Or, if you feel a single folder per document is a bit over the top, you specify the permissions on the document individually as you upload them. It's up to you.
