I'm using the News Feed Module 04.00.01 and DMX module 05.00.05, but i'm having trouble with getting updates to be displayed the way I expect.  I am trying to use the Restricted feed (i.e. the feeds that are restricted to the users who have access to those files).  I have a default module on the Folders page, and I have a separate DMX module on the Team1 page.  I use the NewsFeeds module on the Status page to subscribe to the RSS Feed URL that I find when I use the RSS Feeds option on the Team1 DMX module.  When I look at that Feed directly I am able to see content.  When I visit the status page as a User with View access to the files that have been updated, I see a blank instance.

If I log on as the Superuser, I can see the following error when I clear the feed cache:

Feed 'blah' could not be loaded. Error: The element 'channel' has incomplete content. List of possible elements expected: 'title, link, description, language, copyright, managingEditor, webMaster, pubDate, lastBuildDate, category, generator, docs, cloud, ttl, image, textInput, skipHours, skipDays, rating, item' as well as any element in namespace '##other'.

Any suggestions?

Hi Patrick,

I will try to replicate this. I can't say from here what is happening. Note that using authenticated feeds is tricky. The user/pw you can set in the newsfeeds module is only good for sites that will challenge the module when it tries to retrieve content. This is not the case in DNN or DMX. This is a flaw in the concept of the module that I'm still working on how to proceed. Also: when not using the authentication, you have the problem that the feed is cached, so that potentially user X sees what user Y requested. This is also a conceptual problem.

Having said that, the module should at all times return a valid feed. So I'll put this on the bug list and it will be dealt with in due course.

Just wanted to clarify.  I am using the authenticated feed, but I am not specifying a username or password.  Visiting the feed directly will show the feed.  I think the XML/XSL Module has a problem in that it asks for the feed without presenting the existing cookies, and so it receivees the empty feed (because I don't have any public documents).  I wasn't sure whether the News Feed module needs additional authentication.  I'm not looking to publish the RSS feed outside of the portal; just wanted a way to display the RSS feed in the portal as a status indicator.

Thanks.
