Hi there Peter,

I have a Document Management requirement for a new site and I'm trying to assess if I can achieve all that is required with your module. Here is a list of requirements, would you be so kind as to confirm whether or not they are achievable out of the box or with customisation (and if so how complex the customisation might be):

  • Should provide fields for document Title and Description at least
  • Be able to List All documents on a single page
  • Be able to List by Category or Group
  • Be able to List Custom Selections of documents (one or more,)
  • Be able to Provide access to a subset of documents to certain authorised users
  • Ensure Listings are displayed in a consistent branded format
  • Documents need to be searchable ideally through the main site search interface
  • Ideally a very flexible templateable user interface so we can customise the look, keep it accessible and enable Show/Hide description functionality (using javascript)
  • Be able to List documents just by Title (single column view)
  • Be able to List “Latest Docs” -  a configurable number of latest docs

Does DMX do all of this?

Thanks for your time.

Hi James,

Here goes:

  • Provides both title and 'remarks'
  • Needs an addon to list all docs on the same page. This is not very hard to do, though.
  • Can list by category or folder. Not sure what you mean by 'group'
  • Not sure what you mean by 'custom selection' but you can create custom views of data.
  • Permissions are set by folder and file individually so you can control exactly who sees what
  • Display can be adapted
  • DMX can add to site's central search page
  • Templateable UI
  • There is a what's new addon that lists the lastes docs, plus there is a RSS feed.

Looking at your questions I'd say most 95% is already there, but you might need a custom control somewhere to make up the last 5%. This can always be done by us if you need. Let me know if you need to know more.

Peter

Thanks Peter,

I'm trying out DMX 5.01.00 (DNN 4.9.4) and the 2 add-ons that I tried have errored. The What's new module failed to install properly - Stored Procedures were looking for fields that weren't there. I guess this is a compatibility problem. The Category List installed ok but then failed to render as it couldn't find a reference -"Could not load file or assembly 'Bring2mind.ComponentArt.Web.UI' or one of its dependencies." on the Select Categories page. These are the only 2 add-ons I've tried so far, is there any possibility of you updating these for DMX 5.01?

Also is there anyway to customise the Search Results view? It seems to render duplicate links for each item?

Is there any documentation on extending DMX with custom controls / using the API / XSL transformations using the Reports module etc.?

Thanks,

James.

Hi James,

Did you download the addons from the 05.01.00 directory? They have been updated for the new version of DMX.

There are ample ways to influence rendering of stuff. Search results is an ascx so you can juggle stuff around. You just need to keep in mind that any change you make may be overwritten when you update the core module so you need to back up your changes.

API discussions are in the API forum. There is no formal API documentation.

Peter,

I am having the same issue - specifically in regards to the Category/ShortList add-ons.  These add-ons are not included in the 05.01.00 Extensions folder.  Only two add-ons are listed there, FlexList and Navigator.

Are you planning on updating/uploading the other add-ons?

Thanks,

Alex

Hi Alex,

I'll check them again but they don't rely on the changed ComponentArt dll. They use basic asp.net controls.
