We have about 7000 users and are currently creating a new portal that utilized AD to log people in, etc.

We have about 1000 different documents that we'll need to bring into DMX from various documentation modules in our old portal.  A lot of these docs need to be updated on a monthly, if not every two weeks, and we'd like to have these people get the updates.  A lot of them, if not all, are in one security group in AD.

I'm wondering how I would possibly distribute to all of these folx without having to make them all individually subscribe to a document.

My thought would be to create a bogus dnn id with the group's email address, subscribe to all of the docs I want them to have, and voila, they'd all get any approved versions that would come in.

Does that sound feasible, or am I doing way too much thinking/work here?

thanks

I asked about this also (see my 7/7 post here). Your idea sounds like it would work. Peter also said it would be possible to "artificially" create subscriptions by entering data in the DMX_Subscriptions table.

Hi Matt,

Like Laurence pointed out the quickest way is to make something that fiddles around with the DMX_Subscriptions table. You don't need to match people to individual documents as a folder subscription will do as well. So given that the folders you're managing are probably quite static you wouldn't need to check every 5 minutes.

I do take note of your request and will look into hooking into the permission system. It would be great if you could send notifications to people with VIEW permissions, for instance.

Another idea would be to make subscriptions more flexible and allow them to include role IDs. But that will need to be worked out in the UI as well.
