I purchased and installed DMX months ago. Since that time we've had major performance issues on our server and the size of our database has been bloating out of control (from 50MB to 800MB). We maximized RAM on our server and yet it still continues to have problems. I've been doing everything I can to keep my server up but its been choking and stopping responding several times a day.

I just identified the source of the problem. For whatever reason the server is locking and unlocking about 15 DMX documents every second 24 hours a day. The DMX_Log table contains 5 million records and growing every second. I've looked through the DMX admin settings and can't any setting I can change to try to correct this problem.

Do you have any recommendations on how we can regain control of this module and our server? If not, I'm going to have to notify my clients that we are removing the module from our server.

Thanks a bunch!!!

Okay, I discovered that 15 folders in the offending portal were of the type Synchronized Folders and they corresponded to the IDs of the documents being repeatedly locked and unlocked. So, it seems that the server was synchronizing the files in each of these 15 folders every second (this is an unmodified module using all default settings). When I went in and changed these 15 folder from Synchronized to non-synchronized, the problem went away. I then went into the database and manually purged the 5 million records from the DMX_Log table and was able to shrink my database. Life is much better now and my server is getting much needed rest ;-).

Thanks, John

Hi John,

Synchronized folders need to have a warning maybe. They're a relatively new feature and there are scalability issues there. We're not sure if these scalability issues are ultimately solveable although we'll do our best. The upcoming version will have yet more tunings to this part but one should still use them with great care.
