Hi -

I am looking for guidance/best practices in implementing DMX in an enviornment where I have a DNN implementation (e.g., www.mysite.com) that utilizes multiple child portals to reflect geographic regions (e.g., www.mysite.com/france and www.mysite.com/canada).

But ideally a single DMX instance will manage all the documents - with folders and categories doing the geographic filtering.

Is this possible?  If not, any alternatives?  I imagine I could get this done with multiple RSS feeds, but would apperciate any suggestions.

Thank you.

Hi,

You could leverage RSS to do what you want but you must realize that roles and permissions do not cross boundaries. So this will only work for 'public' material. Then you should be fine. If you intend to have people log in for access then you're going to get into more difficult waters as switching domains will mean they get logged out by the browser.

Peter,

Thank you very much for your reply.  I understand the RSS roles and permissions issue.

I would like to explore the 2nd point a bit further with you.  I'm planning on doing this through main and child portals on a single domain (and single DNN instance) with single signon across the child portals.  So I believe that would mitigate the multiple log-in issue.

But I'm still not clear on how I would configure DMX to support this.  Is there a way to expose folders, categories, etc. from the main site DMX instance to a DMX instance on a child portal?  For example, if all was in the same domain, I'd probably just use one of the add-ons (like category or list); but not sure how to accomplish this between main and children.

Suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

You'd be consuming a rss feed, not displaying/using DMX for this. In the main portal you need to have a module like the rss feeds module that pulls the rss feed from the child portals and displays that. Users can then click through those links to the child portals and get to their data. You can even configure DMX to send direct download links through RSS so people don't even see the child portal but get a straight download.

I am looking for help in implementing DMX in an enviornment where I have just one DNN implementation that utilizes multiple times the module inside the same portal but in different pages classifing different categories in every page(e.g., FormGroup1 and FormGroup2). I try to do that using DNN designer but when I use the first time the control disappear from ADD MODULE dropdownlist.

Also I need to manage all the documents - with in categories in one central administrator form

Is this possible - how? thanks in advance.

Hi Emeldo,

The module disappearing from the dropdown menu is a DNN issue. Check out the DNN forums about this.

You'll be happy to know you can use DMX across the portal many times and share content in this way. Set up an Admin page for DMX and add the module there and leave it as it is. Then on other pages set it so it shows the folders/categories you want. Note that categories are hierarchical and you can make a tree as complex as you like.
