Hello,

I am using DMX 5.X and I have a problem when trying to open a video stored in DMX in streaming mode. Actually I can download it and then after watch it, but I can't stream it.

For example, when i double click the video or use the direct link (in DMX) it shows an error in Windows Media Player like "the file can't be opened". So I thought it could be linked with IIS properties but when I upload the file in the classic DNN file manager and use the video in a TEXT/HTML editor for example, the video plays correctly...

I have looked in the DMX options but I can't find my answer.

Can you give me a hand with this please ?

Thanks,

Regards,

Yann

Hi Yann,

It is on our radar. It's just ont solved yet. It has to do with the internal security system.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your answer. I have tried to use the "Notify me" option to know the evolution of this topic but I have got the following error  when clicking on the link.

A critical error has occurred.
Invalid object name 'dbo.BugNet_BugNotifications'.

It is not so important, just to let you know about that.

Hi Peter,

I have got more and more people asking for streaming videos on their portal. So for the moment I use the DNN default file storage but I would like to harmonize the storage and use DMX for the videos too.

I know that you're overbooked so can you just tell me when this enhancement could be possibly implemented please? Is it something hard ?

Thanks again for your hard work Peter !!

Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,

I've tried this numerous times but have not found the magic solution. As far as I can tell the issue is this:

If you have a video file on the server and you're using a simple direct access (like in DNN) then what actually happens is that IIS does the streaming provided you installed the right bits. This is impossible for DMX as it needs to handle its own download to properly protect the content. Although I have implemented all methods as they should according to the available literature, I still hear people complaining about the streaming. Can you confirm it is still not working in 5.2.11?

Hi Peter,

I have tried with the very last version of DMX (5.2.11) and the link to the video continues to be downloaded and not streamed. I have also tried with a classic DNN link and it works, certainly for the reasons you previously exposed in your post.

I have to precise that my portal is running under IIS 6.0. For you Peter, does the streaming work on your side ?

Thanks a lot for your time,

Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,

No it doesn't either. Although with small movies it's hard to tell.
