Here are 2 intermittent problems we have noticed with the Document Exchange Module Settings (this is for someone logged in with Administrator rights):

1.    When we try to alter the settings, the “Root Folder for module” pull down menu has been empty.  Also, the “Root Category”  won’t let us expand categories to see sub categories. This doesn’t happen every time but it happens frequently and regardless of whether I am view, edit or design mode.

Note: both regular DNN module settings and DMX settings have been altered at this point. Also module permissions have been set (usually Inherit View Permissions from Page is turned off and explicit view and edit permissions set).

2.    Once I get the pull down menus to work (going in and out of the module settings several times), after clicking Update, one of three things happens (and I cannot see anything different between the three that would have something different happen):

a.    The module appears not to be on the page – actually it is on the page according to the DNN database, however View permission is missing for the Administrator role (Administrators still have Edit permission, and other roles have View permission however)

b.    The module shows the AJAX UI even though a template view had been chosen

c.    The module shows correctly

I know the problems in 2 sound like they could not be caused by DMX (module permissions and settings not committed to the DB), however it has happened so many times on DMX module instances that it can't be a coincidence.

We have DMX 5.2.2 on DNN 4.9.5 by the way.

Hi Laurence,

Sounds like there is an issue with the nifty dropdown controls. Did you see any Javascript errors?

I've noticed that the only time the dropdown remains empty is when the selected item had been removed. I.e. if you deleted the folder that was the root, then obviously there's nothing more to show, but the dropdown itself would still work. So evidently this is not your case.

On another note: I've really made a push for stability with the DMX 5.2 branch. I'd urge you to test the latest version as well. Especially if you consider upgrading DNN as well. Note: test first ... you just never know.

Hi Peter,
There are no JS errors. The most common problem is when clicking the [+] icon in the drop downs to expand the tree and it not working. You can click 5 times (each time being sent to the top of the page!) and nothing will happen then the 6th time the tree will expand (this is all while remaining on the settings page, not reopening it). This happens very frequently in IE 8. In FF 3.6 I have not seen it happen at all, although others say they have.
I'll try upgrading to DMX 5.2.8 although we'll probably stay on DNN 4.9.5 for a while.

I just tried DMX 5.2.8 on a test site and I get exactly the same behaviour with the drop downs. In IE8 clicking the [+] icon in the drop downs does not expand the tree, but in FF 3.6.6 it does.

I know those drop downs are supposedly very cool, but in practise for us they are a PIA. As well as this problem, every time you click them you are shot to the top of the page. An old fashioned HTML drop down with dashes to show outlining would be more welcome!

Hi Laurence,

I can't replicate this. I need those dropdowns as I need a load-on-demand tree in a box. I'm at a loss as to how to debug your specific finding. Especially as there are no JS errors. Can you check it with Fiddler? Do you use any specific tunings to IE8?
