Does DMX currently, or are there plans to, support core Taxonomy for individual items?

I.e. I need to tag files based on a hierarchical vocabulary I defined in the Taxonomy manager.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

I'm very excited about the new features that the new DNN taxonomy offers. But there are 2 reasons why this won't happen quickly:

1. Backwards compatibility. DMX 05.02 is compatible with DNN 4.6.2 which did not have this feature. The number of customers already on DNN (I believe 5.2 introduced the taxonomy) is still very small.

2. Stability. Although I love using new DNN features, it always takes a while before they "set". As soon as module developers start using the features in earnest (usually open source modules do this first) issues start to surface that the designers never envisioned. So the implementation is adapted.

Both points put together means it usually takes a year (!) before we can use a new feature in DNN in a module with such a wide distribution as DMX. But rest assured this will get integrated ... one day.

Hey folks -
Any update on the timeframe on this ?
I'd also like to be able to assign taxonomy-based metadata to files uploaded.

No firm yes or no at this point. I will move up the dependency for DMX 6 but not all the way to DNN 6. From what I hear the bulk of users are on 5.2.3 at least. So it makes sense to move up to that baseline. However, the taxonomy has not been entirely stable over the course of DNN 5 I believe. So there is a risk which needs investigating.

O, one more big problem: the taxonomy is not multilingual. DMX categories are. This was a huge oversight IMO in the DNN core and although I brought it up in meetings before taxonomy was even implemented, this was wiped from the table. That was disappointing. It means I can't migrate 1-1 the DMX categories to the DNN taxonomy system.
