I understand that there is a "root" folder for DMX.

Is it possible to reference & index multiple data stores on other servers WithOut importing all the files to the root folder structure?

Ex:   Root = "D:\files\DMX"

a) Also want : "\\server1\attachments  (without cloning the files under the root folder.

b) Also want: "\\server2\common files\MSDA

c) Also want "\\server2\common files\CofA

There are many Gigs of files in each of these file shares.  The attachments folder above is part of our Order Entry system and has many thousands of pdf files in the folder.   I would like to have a DNN page/tab with a DMX module pointing to it.   I also would like to have a "MSDS page" that has DMX pointing to b) above and a "CofA page" pointing to c) above.

Does this make sense?

Hi Gary,

Using data without importing it is against DMX' design as I understand it and I'm afraid this wouldn't be possible.

For different root folders you may wish to setup multiple instances of DMX on different tabs. In the module settings you can specify a root folder for this instance which is then shown as the root folder on this tab - e.g. none of the other folders on the same level or above will be visible in this instance.

If you're afraid to have a huge amount of storage used twice, try this one:
Import all your data into DMX (make sure, you have enough storage) and then delete all your original files.
Via DMX' WebDAV you're able to mount DMX folders as a network drive on your client's machines (there's a thread somewhere here in the forums dealing with this task).
So you have full DMX functionality including versioning without your clients noticing it directly.

Hope, I got you right :-)
