Hello, Not sure this is the right forum. I Apologize if I enter it in the wrong category. I like Global Attributes but the information on those fields is not carried over new versions of the file. Our users need to re-enter the data on those fields (for every revision on every posted document). Is there any way to copy values from the previous version (so that we type values only when there are changes?) Thank you Best Regards |

Hi Allesandro, I'll put it on the wish list. By design DMX does not carry them over to the new version. But we will look at your request to see how it impacts the system. Peter |

Hello Peter, Thanks. Let me know how many chances we have to get this included in a relatively short period. We have partial source. Do you think we could do it ourselves if this is not considered important? We could also think to implement it via Trigger (less clean but ok). We have thousands documents and the attributes don't change 99% of the time during versions. For us Having to retype them all between versions is a big job. Thank you for your answer. Best Regards |

Hi Allesandro, Yes, that should be possible. But ... I just realized that the values *should* be there when creating a new version. What kinds of attributes are not shown correctly in the edit screen? You mention they are reset/blanked out. The edit screens should be filed with the entry being edited as far as I can tell. Peter |

Hello Peter, Sorry for the late answer (I was on a short holidays break). Our System Setup - DNN 5.1.1 - DMX 5.3.3 (but had this problem in previous versions) Steps to reproduce the issue: - Go in Admin and click Global Attributes - Add one or more attributes (mine are all of type String) - Inside DMX right click and choose New File - A Wizard appears: Upload a File and then choose from the left the CUSTOM section - The Global Attributes appears: Fill all attributes with a random value. - Once done click NEXT - The file is saved correctly inside the folder. - Select the file just uploaded - right-click and select NEW VERSION. - Upload a file (necessary step to proceed) - Click on the CUSTOM section You will see that the values entered in the initial version do not appear (fields are blank). I hope this is clearer, if not I can also grant you access on our system (privately using Email) so you can see. Best Regards |

Hi Peter, the same behaviour in our system (DNN 5.5.1, DMX 5.3.2). When uploading a new version of a document with some global attributes set, these are not copied to the new version. The only workabout I found is to upload the new version, change the core metadata if necessary and then click Finish (without switching to the Custom page). After that, the global attributes from the previous version ARE copied to the new version. Then it is possible to modify the document properties including the global atttributes. So basically it takes two steps - upload a new version, but do NOT touch the Custom page of the wizard; and then modify the document's properties including the attributes if necessary. It seems to me that the global attributes are just not copied to the edit wizard, though they are copied to the new version being processed. But because they are not in the wizard, when the Custom page is displayed it is empty and then the attributes are "erased" from the new version being processed. And consequently the new version does not contain the attributes from the previous one. However, if the Custom page was not displayed during creating of the new version, the attributes are not "erased" from the new version entry and consequently the attributes are copied to the new version. Hope it makes sense and that it helps.. |

Thanks PT for the finding. Peter: now that we know this is a bug, can I know if this is considered something to be fixed or if we should investigate alternative solutions? We would prefer not to dig into your code (as I said we have partial source) if this can get an easy fix from your own side. Thank you and Best Regards |

I have listed it as a bug (see panel on the right) and so it is up for fixing. Peter |

Hello Peter, I know this is considered a minor issue but, after about 2 months and half of reporting the bug, how long do you think it's going to take to close this one? Thank you. |

Hello Peter, Any news on this? It would be nice to pay my License Renewal fee (due this August) as I do every year, and see that our little support is there for a reason. Come on, I just need an estimate date to report to our users. Thank you. |

A quick fix is to switch to "Single Edit Screen" (Module Settings - Default Edit Screen). Peter |
