We are using DMX 5.3.7 on DNN 5.6.2. There doesn't appear to be anything in release notes about newer versions that might address this. I have a location set to sync both ways between a domain share and DMX. Occassionally we are seeing a file that was just uploaded getting deleted by the DMX Synch Folder task. Regular users don't have access to delete files from the shared location.

The uploaded files are relatively large (about 120 MB). In my most recent example, from last week, I can see where the user initiated their upload. In the 4 minutes it took for the user to complete the upload and go through the wizard, the DMX Synch Task ran 3 times. The last time it deleted the new DMX file. I didn't have auditing on for the synchronized folder location, so I can't see if it ever made it there. But there is certainly no entry in the DMX Synch Task history log that says it ever copied it there, while there is an entry that it deleted it.

I am trying to see if I can create a repeatable sample and understand exactly what is happening here. I am going to change the DMX Synch Folder task to run every 10 minutes instead of every 2.

Has anyone seen this kind of behavior or have a suggestion to prevent the nearly immediate delete?

This is related to the nature of the sync task. You'll need to decrease the frequency. I keep reiterating this: Sync Folders don't scale. The taks does complete sweeps of the content and compares with what's in DMX. This takes time. That time makes this not scalable. You can't sync Gbs of data over a network. It was designed for small volumes.

Looking at the schedule history for this task, it is not actually running every 2 min on schedule. The site is limited access and IIS will stop the application periodically. But even when the app is running, the scheduled task was not occurring every 2 minutes when it was set that way. It typically takes 30-55 seconds to complete when it does run.

I am not certain how the scheduled task works, but it does show the original server name on which this instance as installed. It has since then been moved and this server name does not match the actual server name it resides on.

It appears from the history this sync task is running when the web application starts and perhaps when users interact with some kinds of DMX modules. This is when I usually see from history that this task is actually running every 2 minutes, as a user is uploading one of these files which takes about 4 minutes. (They only do this once or twice a day).

For now I have changed the schedule to every 2 hours. Does the user interaction with DMX initiate this DMX SyncFolder Task?

That is governed by DNN. It is a host setting whether the schedule runs on demand or on a timer. Check the Host Settings screen.
