Hi,

I have just uploaded the same file with the same name into the same folder. I would expect this to overwrite the existing file and update the version number (or notify the users that the same file exists) but the system uploads the duplicate file.

Is it possible the change this in the settings?

Thanks,

Mike.

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately not. DMX does not naturally protect against files with the same name in the same directory. This may seem counter-intuitive and I accept the blame for that. But the module was based off the model of a document management system where titles of entries were independent from the actual file name. This means there is a disconnect between the filename and the other contents around it which led to this.

Having said that I will add an item to the issue tracker to see if we can have some kind of master switch to control this.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your response. I can understand that the title and physical file name are independent. However, if this is the case then I would expect that the system would not allow for multiple files with the same name regardless of the file name.

For example, if I uploaded two files both with the same filename (e.g. spreadsheet.xls) I could understand the system allowing me to do this if the titles in DMX were different but it allows me to call the files the same AND have the same filename.

Can you think of a good way to check for this and not upload the same document? Any help would be much appreciated.

Best regards,

Mike.

Hi Mike,

I've made a note of this and will try to see if there is a switch that can be implemented.
