Im having some serious issues managing categories. The drag & drop method simply doesn't work and when it does it's not precise.. Often moving categories to the wrong parent. This is going to be very frustrating for my end users but more importantly there doesn't seem to be an alternative. Ie; there's no up, down, left right buttons.

So my question is how else can My end users manage categories. We're talking about people who just need to get it done quickly.

I'm hoping that this drag/drop functionality works elsewhere because if that's the basis of the i
UI then I'm going to have to consider other options.

I'm looking at how to improve upon this UI. You are not the only one to have had issues with this. Ideally I'd like to use the same as the core does for page management, but this would mean moving up the dependency on the module to DNN 6 and it is too early for that. Alternatively we could simplify the UI to not use Javascript/Ajax, but this would mean you would spend a lot of time clicking (i.e. moving an item in the tree would mean clicking an "up" or "down" button, etc) and I think it would penalize all those that have had a good experience with this part until now. In all my research until now I have not found a better drag and drop tree then the one being used. Note this tree also allows to reorder which is very important here.
Another idea that we're exploring is to see if we can provide better visual feedback on what is happening. As you mention the biggest complaint is dropping it where you don't intend to. So maybe having something "light up" would help avoid that.

So all I can say right now: it is under review but no solution has yet been found.

I'm not sure that you quite understand just how bad it is. If I cant create & organise categories then I cant use it. I managed to move 1 category to its appropriate sub-category and I havnt managed to move anything else. I've tried every browser with no luck.

I suggest you try it on a new install with no categories created to see what I mean.

As a fllback, you really need left, right, up & down buttons

I do try it here. And it has worked flawlessly in all browsers. But I'll work on an alternative regardless.
