I have several files that I have uploaded that have spaces in their names.  When I try to download the files in Internet Explorer, the spaces in their names are mapped to an underscore.  So a file called "A name with spaces.doc" is downloaded as "A_name_with_spaces.doc".  However, when I download the same file with Firefox it is simply downloaded as "A"  the rest of the file name after the first space is lost as is the extension.

Firefox also then has a problem understanding the mime type of the file, so it does not know how to open the document.

Is this a known issue and if so, what is the work around?

    Thanks.

I didn't know about the mime type issue, however I reported the filename_space issue last year to Peter, however I think we deduced it was liklely to be an issue that Firefox has downloading any streamed files (ie from any other websites).

I don't think we did much testing through.. IE I didn't look at the possibility of trying to escape the filename when applying the filename attribute. Peter may have some more info..

    Cheers,
    Andrew

We just went live with our intranet portal and this is one issue that we were hoping to resolve.

I haven't noticed any other problems downloading files with Firefox in the past. Even went back through my most recent downloads with Firefox and noticed several files with spaces.

In fact, I just tried to download the What's New module from your site with Firefox and the name had spaces mapped to the underscore. Was this simply how the file was named originally, or is there some setting that I am missing.

    Thanks,
    Phil

    Phil,
This was the original name of the file, so it is not a good indicator. I'm sure there's a trick to do this correctly and I hope to find it one day.

Definitely let us know if you find a trick to fix this as I'm running into the same issue.
