Speaking at OpenForce 07 Las Vegas

This is totally cool. I got selected to present at OpenForce 07 US! I've not blogged about it before because I wanted to wait until it was official. Back in May I got in touch with a DNN buddy of mine called Erik van Ballegoij. He is (1) Dutch like me, (2) on the DNN core team, and (3) passionate about localization like me. So I proposed that we do something together in Las Vegas on dynamic (or content-) localization. Dynamic localization is the possiblity to show textual information entered by the user in multiple languages. This differs from static localization (already implemented in DNN) where the fixed texts (i.e. help texts, buttons, etc) can be shown in different languages. Dynamic localization is an issue that I've tried to push up the DNN agenda a year ago but I couldn't get enough momentum to get it moving forward. Now we seem to have a good atmosphere to get it going again as it has been voted one of the top issues in the DNN feedback. So we submitted a proposal.

And we got in! So here's the idea for the presentation. Erik, through his company Apollo Software, has a track record (1) making bilingual DNN sites Dutch/English and (2) selling/giving away stuff that helps with this. Notably his page localization module and the ML-HTML are worth your attention. I have made a multilingual version of DMX for the Kaercher Intranet in Germany. Furthermore I live in a quadrilingual country (Switzerland) where any serious corporate website has to be multilingual (in my opinion the absence of a proper ML solution in DNN is the primary reason it is not making a bigger impact on the Swiss market). This explains my interest in advancing this issue. So the idea is that we do a presentation on dynamic localization where Erik shows a proposal how to localize the core (e.g. tab names, module titles, etc) and I show a proposal how module developers could implement ML capablities in their modules. More information will follow in separate blog posts.

I hope many of you are going to show up in Vegas. I'm very excited about this and look forward to meeting many of you and my fellow DNN'ers in the flesh. If you can find the time/money/etc, it'll be worth your while. Convince your boss you need to attend this unique event and we'll be having a beer together in November ;-)
